Linda Hands our multi-talented stage manager has been persuaded to re-visit one of her other skills and join force with The Independent Theatre Group to direct their production of “Lilies on The Land” Based on one hundred and fifty letters and interviews with original Land Girls, Lilies on the Land is a revealing, funny and wonderfully moving portrait of some of Britain’s pluckiest unsung heroes and charts the personal journeys of four women who sign up to join the Women’s Land Army during World War 11, determined to work endless hours on farms across the country in a bid to “do their bit” for the War Effort. The play describes how these young women from totally different backgrounds, torn from their families and bereft of all the basic comforts of home, dealt with the hardship of farming life and the pressures of the War. Maybe work clothes full of mice and toilet rolls falling from the sky are just what it needs for these girls to get through? Linda is no stranger to stage direction having previously directed the critically acclaimed Quartet which had a record-breaking run playing to packed houses in Cantoria and Mojacar. Linda is joined in this production by two of our other choir members, Sally Millar and Marie Fletcher Carollan both accomplished actresses who have appeared in many other productions with various amateur dramatic companies. The play will be performed at El Teatro Saavedra in Cantoria on 25th and 26th March and again at El Teatro Municipal in Zurgena on 1st and 2nd April.
